A few months ago, I admitted that I like cute shoes. And nail polish. I abandoned my previous perspective that a woman could not take herself seriously with purple fingernails. I decided that I could, in fact, mix motherhood with work with fashion and do it all while looking good.
The funny thing about all of this is that when you come around to beauty and this kind of self-care in your thirties, as opposed to your twenties, it can be pretty overwhelming. The number of products marketed to women in their early-to-mid thirties is astonishing. And then, to top it all off, I had a facial earlier this year at the hands of an aesthetician who really knew her stuff and she spouted off so many instructions and ingredients that by the end my skin felt great but my head was spinning.
So when the folks at Healthy Directions got in touch with me to review their Trilane line, I immediately said yes.
Trilane Anti-Aging Moisturizer is a highly concentrated, 100% all-natural moisturizer that is made from two botanicals: pure squalane and firming jojoba esters.
Again, as I came to this party late, I wasn’t entirely sure what those two things were. Thank you, Google. Squalane, it turns out, is a natural moisturizer and one that our bodies produce themselves up to a certain point. The bad news, is that sometimes it’s taken from the livers of sharks which, after hearing a recent interview with Shark Girl, makes me really sad. The good news is that Trilane gets its squalane from olives. Jojoba is a plant extract, also known for it’s moisturizing properties.
I’ve used the Lavender scented moisturizer for a couple of months now and I do love how it makes my skin feel – softer and smoother and, overall, more nourished. Everything I’ve learned about it fits with the instructions the aesthetician gave me months ago (I had her write some of it down). I also really like the bottles. They are delicate and clear and pretty and make my nighttime routine feel like a little indulgence.
