Good Life

“Hopelessly

I’m taking a mental picture of you now.

‘Cause hopelessly

The hope is we have so much to feel good about.

Oh, this has gotta be the good life

This has gotta be the good life

This could really be a good life, good life.”

This One Republic song is in the running to be my summer anthem.  Last week it created the perfect vibe on my rides to work, bright sun shining, warm weather a welcome change, the unofficial start to summer lingering on the horizon.  It also got hopelessly stuck in my head and fit my ‘finally it’s summer!’ mood.  Even if I was feeling a bit stressed or down, I perked up just a few notes in.

This morning, it came on while I was at the gym.  Today is the day after a long weekend.  The weather outside is oppressively hot for late May.  Baby entering a new phase of defiance and limit-testing and she seemed happy to see me leave this morning.  A day of work that I was happy to leave behind on Friday looms ahead of me.  There aren’t enough notes in the entire song to get me to the same lighthearted place I enjoyed last week.

Yet, still, the song is stuck in my head today.  And I’m hoping that by the end of the day, the words will have sunk in and I’ll be lighter once again.

Because all of today’s stresses aside, I do have so much to feel good about; beautiful little girl, wonderful husband, great family and friends, the time and ability to engage in my passions.  This definitely has gotta be the good life.
